Dust Box
Installation created as part of the collaboration Photo Elysée X Christian Marclay X écal, 2024.
Project led in collaboration with Noé Vercaemst.
"What remains at the shooting locations once people have had their portrait taken and taken away the strip of images from the Photobooth they appeared on? A ball of yarn detached from a sweater, a hair prematurely fallen from the scalp, a dog hair attached to a handbag, a piece of soil fallen from the groove of a sole... These residues are clues: traces of the passage of people who parade in the Photobooth and links to an external world. A small ecosystem forms in this dust, and unlikely encounters broaden the fields of possibility from the cramped space of this photographic booth. Captured with a scanning electron microscope, lightboxes coldly present enlargements of these traces, while a film documents the process of analyzing these residues in a subtle balance between science and poetry."
